The use of punctuation marks in Arabic language, as we understand them today, began with the spreading of the press and publishing tools. Although there have been some individual suggestions on this subject but the first and most important study on punctuation marks is et-Terkîm ve Alâmâtuhu fi’l-Lu?ati’l-Arabiyye that requested by Egyptian ministry of education and prepared by Ahmed Zeki Pasha in 1912. The punctuation marks and principles developed by Ahmed Zeki Pasha have remained in effect until today, except some small changes. Although there has been many studies on the subject later but they did not change in essence of study of Ahmed Zeki Pasha.
