Qarawiyinmosque in Fezwhichespecially has similararchforms, coveringelementsandminaretforms of the North AfricanarchitectureandalsobearsresemblanceaestheticallyandornamentallytotheAndalusianarchitecture. Inthisstudy, historicalandarchitecturalqualities of Qarawiyinmosque has beenanalyzed. Thebuildingpresentsdiversity of model andcolourwithitsgreentiledroof in additiontoitscarvedstuccos, woodworksandtilemosaics. Moreoverthebuilding is like a heartforthesettledarea in Fezcalled ‘oldmedina’ throughitsgreatdimensionswithmanyentrances. Themosque is known as one of theoldestuniversitiesandone of somenoteworthyfeatures of itscourt is thatdados of pergola sectionsandfloor at courtyard of themosquearetiledwithyellow, green, blue, blackandwhitecolouredtilemosaicswhichlocallycalledzellij. Zellij is a techniquewhichlooksliketilemosaicsused in Central Asia, Iran andTurkey. However in thisbuilding, geometricmotifsarepeculiartothe Western Islamic Art. Inthecategory of courtedmosques, thebuilding has beendiscussed in terms of restorationsandadditionsfromdifferentperiodswithinthecontext of thisstudy.
