Art is a known reality in which the share of society can’t be ignored in the process of composing work. Sociology of literature which is a sub-science of literature also reveals a field of study based on the junction point of literature and society from this reality of view. According to sociology of literature, it is discussed that there is a mutual relation and response between artwork and society. There are also the artworks influencing the society or stimulating the social events as much as the artworks which are created getting affected by the social incidents or in which there exist the marks of social events in the process of creation. Accordingly, this relation is a “mutual” relation. From this point of view, one objective of sociology of literature studies can be thought that the writers and poets are influenced by the environment where they live and by the events happen in this environment and that revealing they reflect to the works created as a collection conservatively. A similar goal has also been pursued in this study, and Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s poems included in his book named “Safahat I” have been tried to get examined pursuant to sociology of literature. In this process, it has been tried to get explained to which positions and realities Mehmet Akif Ersoy paid attention in the social structure of the period he lived, and how much and how he reflected his impressions into his poems. Therefore, the book Safahat I consisting of his poems in which he mentions the social events the most has been chosen. In order to be able to find out the themes about the social realities in the poems in this book and to correlate them with the social structure of the period when the poet lived, the poems have been tried to get evaluated according to their themes under the main titles and sub-titles in the examining part of the study. These main titles have been determined as “Social Structure”, “Family Life”, and “Infra-Structure – Lighting and Zoning Problems”.
