In this essay, thirty different studies are compiled to determine the perception and the attitude of the local people in Turkey about tourism and its effects. Review of literature made in this essay have an importance in providing information to stakeholders serving in tourism industry and academists studying this issue. According to the result of the compilation, it is determined that the local people in Turkey mostly have positive perception and attitude about tourism and its effects. Economic contribution to local people, creating new job opportunities and increasing the investment offerings in the region have place among the main positive opinions that the local people have. It is also determined that, although there are few, the local people who have negative opinion about tourism and the effects which it creates have this negative opinion because they think that tourism causes environmental damage, disrupts customs and traditions and moral values. Although there are a lot of touristic centers in Turkey, it is found out that there are relatively limited number of studies made about this issue. It is ascertained that there have been no studies aimed at especially local people living in Southeast Anatolia. For these reasons it is clear that studies about this issue should be increased in Turkey
