In 19th century, Ottoman Empire has made radical changes in many areas, such as administrative, military, economic, social etc. This change and transformation have also been made in the field of education. In this context, being inspired from the West, Ottoman Empire has gone into a number of modernization efforts in education since 18th century. First of all, modernization efforts starting in the military field have continued in the 19th century as well. In this period, many educational institutions were established in rural regions of the Ottoman Empire. In addition to modern educational institutions established in rural regions, traditional educational institutions also maintained their presence. This study examines the function of the Rushdiye School in Mudanya which was one of the modern educational institutions in rural regions of the Ottoman Empire. Examining archive documents and provincial and educational annuals, we tried to explain the establishment of the school, assigned personnel, number of students, supply of course tools and materials and school maintenance.
