In Safahat (1911-1933), the literary corpus of his products, Mehmet Âkif Ersoy (1873-1936) has included both individual and social topics. However during the period Safahat was created as a result of the conditions in the country and the poet’s great sensitivity against them social topics have been given much more weight. The similarities and differences between many countries, cities, villages and districts have been described as the locations in Safahat. Istanbul, the poet’s hometown, and its districts are amongst these places. Istanbul and its districts have mediated the description of ongoing life in a critical manner by Mehmet Âkif who has an opposing character.
