Rhetoric themed books have been classified under different titles throughout the history. With the Tanzimat Reform Era, subjects of rhetoric were collected under three titles which are me’ani, beyân and bedî?. It is seen that beyân on which the study focus is divided into three sub-titles which are simile, metaphor and allusion. Subject of metaphor is also divided into different titles in itself. In this study, classifications which led to confusion about metaphors were tried to be focused on and signification types of logic were used for this reason. After that, metaphors were compared to subjects of truth and their classifications in rhetorical books were given. Questions such as what sub-headings should be added to the subject of metaphor and how these sub-headings should be classified were tried to be answered and the reasons why simile cannot be a sub-heading of metaphor were tried to be explained. Then, metonymy (majaz-? mursel) was dived into 11 sub-headings by reviewing them according to their relevancies. It was also determined that people who are interested in rhetoric have a general common view related to figure of speech.
