In nearly 1,5 km. northwest of Yukari Kupkiran Village which is 20 km. far from the central district of Agri, situated in a hill overlooked the old Silk Road, and Agri Plain, having the same characterics in common with the other Urartian Castles in the East Anatolian Region regarding its situation and architectural characteristics, the first foundation period of Eyup Pasha (Pazi) Castle dates back to the early iron age. The castle was used in the later periods with restorations because of its strategic importance, continued its existence till the World War I. The plan of castle which was founded on basalt rock, seemed as if it were an eagle’s nest, was formed suitable to the topography, when building the walls natural rocks were used substantially. Masoned by formed basalt rocks, and mortar like Khorasan mortar majority of the rampart walls were destroyed.
