Tezkire (biography), are written works about lives and works of people who acquired fame in any field. The ones about poets are called poet biographies. Poet biographies are one of the main sources of classical Turkish poetry. The first poet biographies in classical Turkish literature feature human factor. Biographies are of importance as they provide information about birth places, names, pen names, nicknames or known names, deaths, places of graves, educational background, occupational lives and literary identities of poets and important changes in their lives. One of the biographies featuring human factor is Gül?en-i ?u’arâ written by Ahdî, an author and poet from 16th century and the work is composed of four parts In Gül?en-i ?u’arâ which is about poets living in Baghdad and in its environs, material and moral lives of poets are frequently mentioned. It is seen that moral lives are mentioned more in the biography. Biography format which became a classic in Turkish literature and mysticism, lodges and members of lodges have an influence on this. Definitive judgments of Ahdî about some poets indicate that he either knew them in person or had close contact with them.
