STUDIES CONDUCTED ON VALUES EDUCATION IN TURKEY

In this study, an evaluation of results of studies was aimed at, conducted on values education in Turkey. Within this framework, a survey of the key concept “values education” was conducted in the Internet and library, and articles and dissertations which were appropriate for the purpose of the study were examined by the descriptive analysis method. In the studies, which consider values education from the viewpoint of the effects on the development of students, effects of values education on students’ social, cognitive, affective and moral development were investigated. In addition to this, there are studies on effects of values education on children’s democratic attitudes and their self-regulation skills. In the studies on instruments used in values education, examination of and effects of values education on stories, sayings and semahs, newspapers, one hundred basic books recommended in schools, proverbs, books considered by different authors, cartoons and prays were addressed. In the studies, which address values education by teachers’ views, it is seen that subjects such as how teachers can teach values education effectively and which values they prioritize.
