When examining a literary work, poem, novel or history of literature, one of the elements that must be determined first is the method of research and analysis to be followed. However, for the analysis of literary works, a more flexible perspective is sometimes required due to the fact that the literary texts are based on author’s perception and emotions as well as his cause and effect connection. In a sense, this result is related to the fact that literature is an art that has open texture characteristics as quoted by Moran (Moran, 1988, 264). A similar situation in terms of availability or preference, is be reflected in histories of literary works or literary personalities. Târih-i Edebiyatiyyât-? Osmaniyye, which is regarded as the first example of its kind with its specific features, is among the examples that we clearly see this reflection. Târih-i Edebiyyât-? Osmaniyye does not have a completely scientific method and content. However, Târih-i Edebiyatiyyât-? Osmaniyye has an important value especially as a pioneer in the transition from collection of biographies to literary historiography.
