Literary texts take their themes from either visible or unvisible objects of realm of existence. Concrete or intangible themes/objects are handled meticulously by scholars. Tenbaku/tömbeki, which mean “tobacco”, or related objects can be seen both in medical and literary texts. Poets and writers have written texts that include tobacco or tobacco based goods as their theme. 17th century poet Fasih Ahmed Dede’s Tenbaku-name, that means About Tobacco, is one of the most important works in which tobacco is represented as a literary theme.
This essay aims to translate library manuscripts of “Tenbku-nme” from Arab alphabet to Latin alphabet and also analyze its context.
