Music is one of the important fields in individual and social life in that it is a cultural heritage and representative of cultural identity with its artistic aspect. Given that every society has its own music, music appears to be a field with a rich variety. With its multidimensional structure, music can be treated from different perspectives by individuals and societies. As far as the functions of music are concerned, its aesthetic functions reflecting on the individual and society should be dealt with as well as its individual, social, cultural and economic functions .On the axis of individual and society, the aesthetic dimension of music has a large field of study to discuss and talk about. This study is concerned, therefore, with the concept of music aesthetic along with its effects on individual and social life, and also designed to discuss the existing state of the aesthetic dimension of music in Turkey in the light of data. This is a descriptive study based on interview and questionnaire as two of literature review and qualitative research techniques. In the study, 483 university students reading in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of different departments at Ataturk University were reached, and so were 93 people from different professional groups working in the city centre of Erzurum. The study group of the research consists of 576 individuals. The aim of the study is to examine what music aesthetic means to individual and society in Turkey.
