Mehmet Âkif Ersoy compiled his poems in his work “Safahat”. Âkif experienced a decline period of all intuitions of the Ottoman Empire. Besides underdevelopment, he also witnessed many wars, along with the difficulties experienced by the Turkish people in the Ottoman geography. According to him, the basic cause of distress was the lack of efforts to reach higher standards of life. Therefore, in his poetry, the notions of hard work and diligence have an important place. It is possible to find the individual as well as the social aspects of the notions of hard work and diligence in Safahat. In this study, the concepts of hard work and diligence, which receive a heavy emphasis in Mehmet Âkif!s poems, are examined.
