Abstract

Author(s): Yaşar ÖZÜÇETİN, Kubar KARAGÖZ

The intellectuals and bureaucrats who had different opinions and ideas to give excitement and a new soul to the Ottoman Empire, which was regarded as the “Sick Man”, were presenting certain resolutions and evaluations about the subject and proposing solutions. In this generation, there was the poet and thinker M. Akif Ersoy, who did not hesitate to make any mental and physical sacrifice to save the country from its current situation. The memorial meeting for the death anniversary of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who has been mentioned in the religious, national and historical days celebrated in the country, took place every year in various places of the country beginning with the year 1938. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death, the declaration of 1986 as “Akif Year” in the name of the state helped us to understand him in the following years as he deserved. Archive research, archive publications, periodicals, copyright and research works were used in this study with the aim of analysing the death anniversary activities and determining the role of those activities in understanding Mehmet Akif Ersoy as he deserves.
