The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise on sleep quality. A total of 200 people participated in this study in the central districts of Samsun province (Atakum, Canik, Ilkad?m), including 100 male athletes playing licensed football over the age of 18 and 100 male sedentary individuals who did not do sports. SPSS 23.00 package program was used in the data analysis of the research. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were performed to determine whether the sample scores were normally distributed, and the distribution showed a normal characteristic as a result of both tests. In this study, personal information form that includes physical and sleeping habits of the individuals and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), whose validity and reliability in Turkey was shown by A?argün et al. (1996) and originally was developed by Buysse et al. (1989), were used. Significant differences were observed in all components of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) between the regularly exercising group and the sedentary group (p < 0.05, p <0.001) except for the sleep latency and habitual sleep activity sub-components. It was found that the sleep quality of the individuals who exercise was better than those who did not. It has been observed that regular exercise has a positive effect on sleep quality. Accordingly, directing individuals to regular sports activities is recommended in order to ensure that their daytime functions are healthier and their sleep is more efficient.
