Famous writer Cengiz Aytmatov uses elements of folklore masterfully in his writing. We can observe not only the (Kyrgyz) folk culture but also the old Turkish beliefs and customs. Bringing the national to universal level, Cengiz Aytmatov also manages to transform oral literature into written documents. This study examines the fortune telling, dreams and oracles that take an important place in old Turkish religious belief, and their reflections in Cengiz Aytmatov’s writing.
