In this paper, the story “The Man with White Coat” of O?uz Atay, a genuine author of Turkish literature who wrote novels, stories, biographies, diaries, and plays will be studied under the light of above concepts. The Man with White Coat is a story that manifests the author’s perspective of art, society, and life as to existentialism. In this story too is O?uz Atay the author of the individual. He describes failure, lack of communication, disappointment, depression, revolt, suicide, alienation, unclinging in a humorous and ironic way and within a play context. One of the main concepts in The Man with White Coat is the lack of communication due to the loneliness. The main character of the story doesn’t speak or response. There are numerous expressions telling the lack of communication of the main character. Sometimes people believe that he is a tourist because he doesn’t speak. He doesn’t speak or response even when people swear him in a language he doesn’t know or pull his coattail. In this text O?uz Atay criticize corwds of people seriously. Some adjectives and indefinite pronouns drive readers to ambiguity. For example: people joining the crowd, the crowd, he came to a street, people indifferent of the environment, somebody, he looked for someone, they ran into the crowd watching them. Within these indefinite expressions, the most common is “the crowd”. O?uz Atay described The Man with White Coat as a person, and others as the crowd. With this aspect, The Man with White Coat recalls Ortega y Gasset’s person and everybody. In this work Gasset expressed that living is to be the desperate captives of an environment. In the story the man with white coat tries not to be the captive of the environment with existentialism philosophy.
