Metaphors and quotations are the semantic arts that correspond with the first-degree connotations resulting from the excitement. The outer stimulus that awake the senses have some positive or negative effects on a person. Shaped by these effects, the senses recall some feelings and conceptions in accordance with the emotional state of the person. The person some time appeals to the metaphors and quotations in his mind in order to arouse that emotional state shaped by these feelings of excitement in others. Thus, the connotations of the people living in the same natural and social environment are similar, not alike though. The similarity that is provided through metaphors and quotations lights the way to the perception and the feeling world of the artists as it does on those of every person. It also enriches the conception and imagination of the readers and audience. As is known, Ottoman poetry tradition is the poetry tradition in which the best rhetoric and semantic arts are used. In Ottoman poetry, all concrete and abstract elements are described within a considerably rich aesthetics system through logical metahpors and strong depictions. Baki, a mastery in poetry, is definitely one of the most well-known Ottoman poetry tradition poets. In this study, all of Baki’s ghazals are studied by largely making use of a well-known linguist Do?an AKSAN’s ideas about metaphors and quotations and it’s aimed to light the way to the feelings, conceptions of the poet and to the aesthetics system in ghazals through metaphors and quotations.
