THE MIGRATION TO THE WEST AS A PHENOMENON IN THE FRAMEWORK OF MUSLIMCHRISTIAN RELATIONS

Abstract

Author(s): Hüseyin KÖFTÜRCÜ

Immigration is a historical reality since the beginning of the humanity. Behind the flows of migration to the West from the Muslim Countries are mainly political and economical and to some extent demographical causes. Recently radical changes have been witnessed in the state of affairs of the migration policies of the western countries. In both media and political arena Islam has been characterized as something negative. Animosity has been a productive instrument in the extreme parties’ discourse. Present actions and counter-actions with provocative policies contribute to more terror, hatred and racism and also more xenophobia, which in the end lead to more social troubles in the society destroying the widely-held view of accepting the cultural differences as a positive value. Despite the unfavorable propaganda and concerns about migrations, it is well known that respect towards different religions and cultures is the common value of the humanity. In order not to cause any more adversities, Muslim and Christian scientists and philosophers should try to discuss the matter free from biases
