Mankind keeps looking for answers of why and what for he was created. Since primitive man could not solve nature, he could not comprehend the reasons of natural events, he tried to direct them by utilizing supernatural powers and he sought solutions for the difficulties he experienced. In this process, people have attributed holiness to various beings and individuals. People will have the faith in men who were referred as Veli, Evliya and Sheikh who has spiritual power. This faith will not change even in living in a civilized society or technological innovations.Evliyas, who were the masters of the spiritual world, were the ones whom people consulted and waited for help during and after life. People in the presence of God’s dear servant; they take shelter against the challenges in their lives, they feel relieve psychologically, interact with the manifestations of the sacred. One of these sacred places is the seat of Yahya Efendi of Be?ikta?, who is considered as one of the four guards of the Bosphorus. Many legends about the sacred personality of Yahya Efendi of Be?ikta? have been generated. In this study, twenty-one legends of Yahya Efendi of Be?ikta? will be examined according to the motif classification made by Ahmet Ya?ar Ocak in terms of motifs from the menak?pnameler. The study is important in terms of identifying and revealing the motifs of Yahya Efendi of Be?ikta?.
