After the Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974, the decision of embargo by the United States Congress in spite of his own government led Turkey to reconsider her security and defence policy and to re-question of the American alliance. Turkey, having difficulty in compensating for the military aid or arms and ammunition sales, turned her face to alternative suppliers without losing time for the TAF not to lose power. The approach of the UK to the issue differentiated from its allied nations because of the subjects of being guarantor in the island and the alliance with Turkey under the NATO umbrella. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and its related departments handled the pros and cons of the issue of the UK’s potential arms supply to Turkey in detail. Once the correspondence after 5 February 1975, the date on which the embargo began to be implemented, has been examined it is seen that it was not easy for the UK to decide on the arms supply and the roles that the British took on caused a political dilemma
