factors conversion of these lands in which we live to the Turkish and Islamic country. One of the most important of these is Ahî Evren and the organization which was founded by him. The organization played an effective role in the present situation of Anatolia. Ahî Evren who had become the refuge and protector of the Oguzs after the tyranny of the Mongolians, helped their settlements. Giving professions to those unemployed Turkomens and providing artisans and craftsmen with benches, he blocked of staying crushed opposite of the local people.
Ahî Evren resumed spreading Islam among Turkomens and non-Muslims-who did not know Islam fully- via Ahî guild that he established. Those who grew up in the small Ahî lodges won the hearts of local people disseminating the seeds of love and virtue to Anatolia, advocating the honesty, justice of Turk and beauties of Islam. The Ahîs, have taken on important tasks at establishing peace, spreading the religion, in Anatolia and the development of trade and branches of arts at these lands for years. Having many functions apart from its commercial one, this guild continued to exist as “Guild Organisation” in the Ottoman Empire after the Seljuks.
In our study, referring to the changes in the Ahî guild in the historical process, we will try to cover its religious, commercial, military, political, ethical, decency, social, and cultural functions and examine the roles of those functions in the process of Turkification and Islamization of Anatolia.
