The language problem, regarded as unavoidable factor of permanence of the Empire with the westernization movement which had began in 19'th century in Ottoman Empire and as one of the biggest indicators of the senses of being a nation, was argued in certain times with the effect of dominant ideology at different dimensions. Especially after the French revolution, the national languages became important with the rise of nation-states, and this awareness showed its effects on the Ottoman Empire too. Real fundamental changes occurred in the language field with the proclamation of the republic. Language policies raised in accordance with constituting of structure of modern nation-state, and the Language Association which would carry out the work in this field started to carry out the modernization works.
So, in this article, it is tried to specify what the historical and philosophical background of Turkish Language Association and, its instrumental and teleological function on taking place of language reform, while language reform which confronting us in the form of language modernization, creating an understandable language and simplification of language, coming true.
