Literary texts are one of the fundamental sources which researchers apply for to get to know about societies from many perspectives. The literature of a nation is not unrelated to the society that it has come from. The old Turkish literature texts are fundamental sources for researchers in many respects such as community life, social and individual problems, and value judgements. One of the research areas of the old Turkish literature is Turkish newspapers with Arabic letters. Amid-i Sewda (AS) newspaper is an important newspaper from these newspapers. Amid-i Sewda (AS) was published by Ali Emiri as six issues in 1909. In this study, it was emphasised that how Ali Emiri approached the old Turkish literature by examining the poetry and the texts which published in that newspaper.Ali Emiri published prose texts as well as verse texts which had been written with poetic forms such as couplet, ghazal, qasida, qit'a, tarih (the poem of date) in the newspaper. He instrumentalised as a poet the newspaper as a "school or literary milieu". Some poetic texts of the old Turkish literature that written with poetic forms published by Ali Emiri in the newspaper, illuminate the problems of that era. The comparison, the Ottoman printed texts reading and analysis methods were used in this article. Eventually, it has been identified that Ali Emiri was very closely interested with the old Turkish literature in Amid-i Sewda, and he published that newspapers with this aim. According to this, Ali Emiri has considered the old Turkish literature as an integral part of the Eastern-Islamic civilisation. Therefore, he consciously and persistently struggled as a defender of a Diwan literature throughout his life.
