Oktay Rifat’s first phase under the influence of Garip movement, which is one of the turning points of our poetry, is followed primarily by poems with social contexts such as Aa? Yukar? (1952), Karga ile Tilki (1954) and then closed poetry period movement that subsumes Perçemli Sokak and Â?k Merdiveni. Perçemli Sokak, published in 1956, represents a new phase in Oktay Rifat’s poetry. Along with this book, the poet by developing a new discourse almost in contrast to the poetics of Garip, has drawn attention not only with the preface of the book but also with his treatment of the imagery. Both the core word of Perçemli Sokak and the imagery structure of the most of the fourty two poems inside carry similarities with various discourses of the surrealists. In the article, the similarities between the poems of Oktay Rifat in this book and various attitudes and techniques of the surrealists is emphasized.
