Sezai Karakoç has a reputation as a poet who developed the “resurrection” concept in Islamic discourse as well as wrote poems that samples the reflection of the sensibility that frames this concept on the poetry. That is the most significant point differs him from the other poets of the movement in which he also is placed, called “The Second New Poetry”. While Karakoç is committed to traditions with his ideas and sensibility, he does not write his poems in traditional frames, but also he differs from the other poets that write out of the traditional frames in terms of his relation with traditions. Karakoç, who has a unique position among the other poets in his generation with this attitude, frequently refers to historical and religious figures in his poems. One of these figures is Mary who is the mother of the prophet Jesus. This article focuses on the context and the poetic function of the word “Mary”.
