In this paper, the words related to health and medicine in Gerard Clauson’s Etymological dictionary, titled as An Etymological Dictionary of Pre-Thirteenth-Century Turkish, which was published by Oxford University in 1972, were revealed. In the dictionary, which hasa unique layout, except the words those were taken directly from Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian until the beginning of the 8thcentury,all the words those mentioned in Turkish written texts and documents were collected, and insofar as possible, the etymological explanations were made. Moreover, throughout this study, the words those related to health and medicine before 13th century were used in sentences over and over again, the words from the same root were sampled, and the etymological origin of these words was explained as much as possible. In this study, briefly Clauson's interest on Turcology and his works were mentioned, his statements in the introductory section of his work An the Etymological Dictionary of Pre-Thirteenth-Century Turkish were summarized and the words those were scattered in etymological dictionary were combined, thus the health and medical literature before 13th century was revealed.
