The present study centres around the reflections of the relationship between literature and music on popular culture. Discussions on whether popular culture carries literary value and song lyrics could be accepted as a poem or not continue to be up -to -date in every period. Though, they concentrate mostly on the meaning aspect of song lyrics and literary forms as well as style arerelegated to a subsidiary position. In fact, fundamental criteria for a stylistic analysis of a poem are concerned with metre, po etic manner, antibacchius, rhyme scheme, kinds of rhyme. These are the components of today’s songs, as well. For this reason, it is observed that the songs carry at least some of the elements of poetry.In this study, the most widely listened 400 Turkish songs between 2007-2016, were analysed in terms of their relevance to poetry. To this aim, first, several viewpoints and conceptual definitions about poetry are presented. Following that, metre, antibacchius, poetic manner, rhyme scheme, kinds of rhyme which are utilised in poetry analysis are explained. How frequently the structural features of poem are used in the Turkish pop songs and whether they are subject to change over years have been investigated. Taking the folk literature and current Turkish literature into account, the authors have evaluated the reasons underlying these changes and their consequences in the context of popular culture.
