The Turkish and the Albanian nations crossed with each other`s path many years ago. During that time, togetherness of these two nations had an impact on culture, language and religion. The Albanians lived in five centuries under the Ottoman domination. Therefore, the interaction has more increased.
In addition, the official language of the Ottoman was Turkish. So Turkish language had influence on Albanian language. Furthermore, Albanian people learned Turkish language as well. This interaction gained momentum, when the Albanians embraced Islam.
This interaction has shown itself in many areas ranging from religion to art, literature, culture and science. Turkish has been taught as a foreign language in Albania since the Ottoman period. Teaching Turkish language has been divided into four periods: Ottoman period, the years of independence, communist and post-communist years. Todays, Turkish is taught in many institutions in Albania.
In this study, we focus on Turkish language teaching in Albania and “why and what cause Albanian people to learn Turkish?”
