Subjective research methods recommended by the first generation design theoreticians to be used while designing in many different disciplines and which intend to divide design process into independent parts have proven to inefficient in textile design. These type of researches have studied form, function, material and context, four external component of product design, on the contrary haven’t bothered the intrinsic components such as utility, practicability and appeal. These intrinsic components of product design have been accepted as the basic targets of today’s design problems. Similarly ethnographic research which was being employed in design researches points out the humanitarian characteristics of design problem. The aim of this research is to transform the traditional embroidery called Türk i?i into another textile domain and extend its usage area making it visible for the younger generations without distorting its traditional characteristics. This research has used 30 embroideries found in an ethnographic research conducted in Afyon archeological Museum as a source of inspiration for the production of imprinted fabrics for clothing. The results of the conducted research have been studied according to the textile design method and finally 6 fabrics were chosen among many prototypes. It has been found as vital that ethnical, cultural and local elements have to be evaluated by those designers who value their own heritage in textile design field. By adding field research into design researches the duty of cultural sustainability and uniqueness of the design may be imposed on the textile designer. Textile designer should be equipped with high degree of self-cultural conscious and ethnographic researches should be employed as one of the design research methods.
