Utilizing Wikipedia's Biographical Repository as a Reflexive Tool towards a Digital Reflexive Sociology

Abstract

Author(s): Jocelyn Jie Wang*

This article explores the potential of Wikipedia's biographical repository as a reflexive tool in the context of digital reflexive sociology. It examines how the collaborative nature of Wikipedia facilitates the construction of knowledge about individuals and their life stories, which in turn can reflect broader societal narratives. The article argues that the analysis of biographical entries on Wikipedia can yield insights into the dynamics of social identity, power relations, and the digital construction of self. By employing a qualitative approach to examine selected biographical entries, this study aims to illustrate how Wikipedia serves not only as a platform for information dissemination but also as a critical resource for sociological reflection and inquiry
