The term “vow” is the combination of all the physical and spiritual factors which men have believed and the rituals they have practiced ever since the beginning of human existence. The cultural and belief factors practiced in Anatolia before the Turkish sovereignty and carried by the Turks themselves after the Turkish sovereignty have formed a synthesis and look like a colorful prisma around the places where vow rituals take place. The communities and their history of beliefs which get together around this prisma are the symbols of cultural unity. In this study, the results of a particular research on the legends which arose around the vow places in Giresun and the rituals which have been practiced in these places are evaluated. However, this study will be advanced by a comparative analysis of the rituals and the legends around these vow places by taking the historical process of the region into consideration. As a result of the researches about many vow places in Anatolia, a need for a research across disciplines has occured. This will enable us to present the historical, cultural, physical and spiritual unity of our country in another perspective.
