Abstract

Author(s): Bekir GÜZEL

The issue of violence and abusement against children is a bleeding wound in our postmodern society of the 21st century. Many attempts to stop this bleeding have been underwhelming. Violence and abusement against children were problems with which former generations also faced and struggled. Today they constitute a problem for our generation to face and struggle with likewise. The issue of violence and abusement against children will be a problem with which the next generations have to face if the necessary interventions are not made to resolve the problem. Although many methods have been tried for the solution of this problem so far by first and foremost social service specialists, sociologists, social workers, anthropologists, and psychologists; there have been no precise success yet. Violence and abusement against children cannot be attributed to only one reason as well as the struggle with this problem is unfortunately not possible with one sided attempts. Therefore; in order to resolve this problem, the use of all means with the aim of drawing attention of society and a total struggle are required. In this study, the issue of violence and abusement against children is discussed in terms of literature with the examples from Jack by Alphonse Daudet. Thereby, drawing attention to the importance of this issue is aimed.
