VIOLENCE IN TV SERIES: THE CASE OF "ÇUKUR" SERIES

Media contents and especially television shows use up a part of people's daily life. Television series are widely followed in
terms of having an immersive structure. Violence, which is a universal language, is successful in drawing the mass to the screen. The
fact that violence is a factor that increases the watching and it may cause to be used by TV series producers. The TV series "Çukur"
broadcast on Show TV constitutes the sample of this study in the context of violence. The first three episodes of the series were analyzed
by content analysis method. In addition, the interaction elements of the violence scenes published on the YouTube video sharing site of
the series were also analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was understood that acts of physical violence and murder were frequently
reported in the series. Violence acts in the series are directed by men to men again. As an example of verbal violence, swear words are
also used extensively in the series. Torture scenes were also encountered in the series. It has been observed that the words that evoke
death or death were used intensely in the series. Based on the first three chapters, it was found that a word evoking death is used every
ten minutes on average.
