WHATSAPP, WHATSAPP GROUPS AND USAGE HABITS: A RESEARCH ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Social media applications, which have become widespread in the world in recent years, are being used extensively in our country. Dozens of applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram can be used by different segments for different purposes every day. One of these social media applications is Whatsapp. Whatsapp is an application that allows mutual communication with either inter-individual or group communication. Through this application, people can chat, send video, pictures, documents and locations and communicate very quickly and instantly. This application can be utilized more recently in addition to personal chat. Thanks to Whatsapp groups, especially small groups (occupational groups, student groups, groups of friends, families, etc.) have more intensive, private and closed communication. One of these groups is student groups. In this study, a questionnaire was applied to 275 people selected from Necmettin Erbakan University students by simple random sampling. “Whatsapp and Whatsapp groups usage habits” were tried to be evaluated with the data obtained from the survey. As a result of the study, 5 factors affecting the usage habits of Whatsapp and Whatsapp groups were determined. These factors are Whatsapp addiction, active user situations, Whatsapp watch, Whatsapp publicity and Whatsapp reasons. In this study, Whatsapp communication groups, Whatsapp usage purposes were evaluated with statistical techniques.
