Author(s): Canan ÇİTİL AKYOL, Emine DURMUŞ

This study aims to explain what kind of things men don’t forgive in their marriages and their reasons. The study was carried out with 124 married men from different occupational groups. Participants have a duration of marriage between 5 months and 39 years and their average of age is 38.44. Socio-demographic attributes of the participants and the incidents they wouldn’t forgive in their marriages were collected via a personal data collection form. The data gathered was analyzed with content analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis techniques. Based on the findings of the study, the incidents that men wouldn’t forgive are grouped under 23 main and 2 sub-categories. Among the first ranks are (1) cheating, (2) lack of love and respect and (3) indifference towards the husband, kids and the housework. Findings show that men wouldn’t forgive cheating, lack of love and respect and indifference towards the husband, kids and the housework because they are unacceptable for being against the social values and for damaging their masculinity.
