British children's literature writer Laura S. Matthews's novel named Fish tells the war from the eyes of a child. The novel is the story of escape from the war. The child, the main character of the novel, is called Tiger. Tiger’s parents are help volunteers in a remote country. The civil war in this country obliges the family to flee the village where they live in this distant country. During this escape, Tiger took the fish he had found in a muddy puddle. When the family reached a safe area after a difficult escape, Tiger brought the fish to the safe zone with them. Thus Tiger managed to keep the fish alive. In this context, the novel named Fish is one of the works that handles the phenomenon of war in children's literature without leaving hope. The fish that the main character survives is a symbol of hope. The aim of this study is to reveal how the phenomenon of war and hope presented in the novel named Fish in terms of children's literature. Descriptive analysis was used in the study. Descriptive analysis is one of the qualitative research methods. Information about the novel named Fish, children's literature, realism in children’s literature, war in children's literature, and children's reality were obtained through a screening model. As a result, the novel Fish has dealt with the phenomenon of war in accordance with the children’s reality. This novel is an example of a qualified children's literature
