Youssef and Züleyha narrative written in classical Turkish literature, can also be seen largely in both Islamic, Jewish and Egyptian literatures as well. Youssef narratives were written in almost all periods of classical Turkish literature. Such concepts as dungeon, well and shirt which are associated with Youssef narratives are an integral part of our literature. One of the most important masterpieces in Turkisk cultural and literary life, Dede Korkut Stories, have a unique place in the oral narrative tradition in Turkish literature. One of the stories, Bams? Beyrek, is particularly significant owing to the symbols it contains. When viewed from intertextual and comparative literature perspective, both the above stories can be seen to have common symbolic structures. Among these symbols, the shirt in particular holds a very close smybolic connotation. In this study, the maturation of Youssef in Youssef Narrative and Beyrek in Dede Korkut Narrative will be dealt with in terms of the symbolic connotations of the shirt.
